Masala Peanuts

  Posted by Picasa

These peanuts are sold all over south India at the street side moving stall vendors or some sweet stalls also sell these peanuts. In cities where we find beaches like Madras, vizag and many more cities when ever we go to beach we find people carrying small cane baskets selling peanuts and batani...etc .Here we miss all those little things in life.

I as a child when ever I have chance to go to market with my mom or ammama I used to butter them to buy me some snack from the street side bandees, my mom used to always say those are not hygenic to u so stay away from those vendors, but ammama used to buy them and hide them from mom to give us those precious snacks. Now I miss all those sweet things we did in our child hood.

Here is the recipe for this snack:

Ingredients:
1 lb/kg raw peanuts.
2 tblsp besan/channaga pindi/chickpea floor.
1/2 tspn red chilli powder.
salt to taste.
2 garlic cloved crushed very fine(if not u can even use garlic powder)
oil to deep fry

Method:

First soak the peanuts for 1hr in water, after 1hr drain the water from the peanuts and keep the peanuts aside.

Masala for the peanuts:
2 tblsp besan/channaga pindi/chickpea floor.
1/2 tspn red chilli powder.
salt to taste.
2 garlic cloved crushed very fine(if not u can even use garlic powder)

Mix these above ingredients(all dry ingredients only dont mix any water)and coat them to the soaked peanuts, just sprinkle the mixed masala to the wet peanuts and shake the bowl so that all the masala is coated to the peanuts equally.

Meanwhile take deep fry pan and add oil to it and heat the oil, when the oil is warm enough to deep fry the peanuts add the masala coated peanuts and fry till crisp when the peanuts are crispy remove from the oil and drain it on a tissue to remove any excess oil and later stove it in a air tight container.

These snack is good while watching ur fav movie with the family or its good for picnics.

You know Tanuja,I had some English guests recently....we had started off with some snacks...and somewhere my husband mentioned abt masala peanuts, they were curious to know...luckily I had some left over in my pantry...and they were so impressed by its taste that it was finished in no time!!Indian street foods have always been amazing...now I know it is so for the westerners too!!
